Whistle-Stop Train Tour Commemorates New Lynchburg Service on Sept. 30
To celebrate the new Amtrak Virginia service originating in Lynchburg, special events at several Virginia train stations will be held to greet a ceremonial train’s Whistle-Stop Tour on September 30, 2009, the day before the new route’s public launch.
The train tour will begin at Union Station in Washington, DC and continue southwest to Lynchburg so that the train is in position for its first public trip from Lynchburg north on October 1.
State and local officials will ride the train and make stops along each of the stations the new service covers:
- Washington Union Station
- Alexandria – King St.
- Burke Centre*
- Manassas
- Culpeper
- Charlottesville
- Lynchburg
